Camping is like real estate Location Location Location. For example when I camp alone I prefer hiking to a site in the middle of no ware right in the middle of nature, but if I am going with my family they want the convenience of bathroom, showers, and car (if they get scared of the weather). The problem for me being close to others is you have to deal with others (loud music, drunks, screaming kids, etc …) and you lose the purpose of camping in my honest opinion. I go camping for the Nature of it. I want to hear the sounds of the land, the smell of the trees, and the sights of the landscape without the interruption of man made distractions.
Now there are others that feel the only way to camp is in a camper (which is fine) they need all the protection, electronics, and ease of cooking.
Some of the key things I look for in a site is trees for wind brake, body of water for things like fishing, swimming (bathing), and some times refrigeration (to help some foods form getting to hot) and cellphone connection (for weather info not incoming calls lol).
Some state parks provide the type of sites I like, but I have to do a lot of research before I decide. I love google earth satellite photos to help in the search.
So to sum this up if you want to go camping you need to think about what kind of experience you are looking for to help find the best site. Like I stated in the beginning location is key for the best getaway you can have.
Above all else Have fun and be safe.
